Calculate net proceeds

Start with sale price. Subtract marketplace commission, payment processing, shipping materials, tracked postage, insurance and any promotional fee. For a $100 sale, a $5 commission, $4 payment charge and $8 shipping cost leave $83 before the card's acquisition cost.

Compare like-for-like channels

A local cash trade may have low fees but a smaller buyer pool. A large marketplace may bring more demand but cost more and require returns. Read each platform's current fee schedule and payout terms; do not rely on a comparison article's old percentages.

Include the risk cost

Use clear photos, accurate condition notes and tracked delivery. For high-value cards, insurance or authentication may cost money but reduce loss risk. Do not describe a payment as protected or escrowed unless the platform's actual terms say so.

A worked net-proceeds example

Imagine a card sold for $100. If a marketplace takes $5 commission, payment processing costs $4, tracked postage and packaging cost $8, the seller receives $83 before the card's original cost or taxes. A second venue with a $7 commission but no separate payment fee might leave $85 with the same shipping. The lowest advertised percentage did not produce the best payout. Substitute each platform's current terms; these example charges are not CardBoom fees.

Run the same arithmetic for an offer below asking price. A $90 buyer offer with fewer charges might beat a $100 sale that requires paid promotion or expensive insured delivery. Compare money actually received, not the listing headline.

Account for delivery and returns

Set a shipping method before listing. A rigid mailer, tracking and insurance all have costs, but a lost or bent card can cost more. Read who pays return postage and how disputes are handled. A local handoff removes postage but introduces other practical risks; choose a safe public meeting place and a payment method both parties understand.

Check when a platform releases seller funds and whether a hold depends on delivery confirmation. Waiting time does not change the face value of a sale, but it matters if you need cash for another purchase. Avoid claiming 'escrow protection' unless the provider's actual legal and payment terms support it.

Match the channel to the card

A low-value common can lose most of its proceeds to packaging and labor, so grouping it with similar cards may be sensible. A valuable alternate art deserves careful photos, tracked delivery and a channel where buyers can inspect a trustworthy listing. A dealer buylist may pay less than a patient direct sale but saves sorting, messages and multiple shipments.
